Top 8 Best Double End Bags 2020

Do you know what piece of equipment has the potential to take your boxing to the next level?

A double end speed bag!

If you spend any time watching pre-match fight footage, you have probably seen your favorite Boxer, MMA, or UFC fighter warming up with one of these.

Getting a hold of one of the best double end bags is easily one of the top investments you can make in your lineup of boxing gym tools.

I will make my case for why a double end speed bag is so helpful, How to choose one, how to use one, and offer 8 of the best double end bag reviews to help you decide which is right for you.

Why should I invest in a double end bag for my boxing gym?

A heavy bag is great for developing power and perfecting form, but it does not do much in terms if improving your speed and agility.

Accuracy, coordination

Do you want to land more punches?

Challenge yourself using a double end bag. They are small and light and make a moving target, just like a real opponent.

It might feel awkward at first to train with a double end bag, it may even be frustrating to miss hits, but once you get the hang of it you will find that success carry over into practice and sparring with a real partner.

Make training on the double bag a consistent part or your routine for putting more accuracy and coordination into your punches.

There is not much use in being able to hit hard of you can not land a punch. This boxer might have benefited from a double end bag before taking on Muhammad Ali.

Timing, reaction speed

If your timing, balance and position are off, training with a double end bag will reveal this.

The double end bag is like a really honest friend that tells you the truth straight. You are either hitting or missing.

The great thing about these bags is that your improvements are also evident.

You will be able to easily see if you are making progress, which you will if you use this training tool without fail every training session.

How do I choose the right double end bag?

Size and Diameter

Double end bags come in a range of sizes and diameters. As a general rule, the larger diameter or heavier weight bags move slower. A larger bag is suitable for a beginner, but as you increase skill, speed and accuracy, consider training with a light and narrow bag. The light, narrow bags are faster and more challenging.

Double bags come in several shapes.

Why choose one shape over another? Great question!

  • Round (ball shaped): Shaped like a ball, these bags have a straighter rebound. They are easier to hit and rebound in a predictable fashion.
  • Oval or egg shaped: Similar to the round bag, these bags are slightly elongated, but react similar to round bags.
  • Mexican style (peanut shape) Double teardrop shape: These peanut shaped bags allow you to practice and hit a huge number of different angles. These bags also move straight. The shape and length of the bag allows you to practice your upper cut and lower body hits. These bags are somewhat hard to source, but if you look, you will find.
  • Teardrop/ speedbag shaped bags: These are fatter at the bottom and taper at the top. They look like a standard speed bag, except they are hung on cords at the top and from the bottom, like all double end bags. They move and rebound on a curve, as they are not symmetrical. They can be some of the most challenging bags to hit consistently, as they are not as predictable as others, all the more reason to use one.

Your opponent won’t be predictable, so why not train with a bag that is not predictable either?

Most of these bags are made with Cow Hide leather.

A few are made with faux leather, and while I prefer real leather, the faux leather ones can be just as good.

Faux Leather?

At the same time, a good high quality faux leather bag can be far better than a leather bag made with low quality leather that rips at the seams and becomes useless.

The most important thing to check for is the material thickness, check that it has triple stitching and reinforced seams and stress points.

What is the right way to use a double end bag?

How to hang and mount a double end bag?

Bag Height

Mount the double end bag so it is about the same level as your head, but not higher. If using a Mexican style bag, the top of the bag should be the same height as the top of your head.

You can hang the bag with the straps as tight or loose as you like.

Tight Cords

Tighter cords will cause the bag to move faster and not move in random directions.

Tighter cords are best for training speed, accuracy, making combos and rhythm.

Loose Cords

A double end bag hung on looser cords will move in ways you might not expect, just like an opponent might. This unpredictability will allow you to practice your bob and weave, slipping and head movement.

Top 8 Best Double End Bag Reviews 2020

These are the best double end bags 2020:

Ringside Leather Boxing Double End Bag

Review: The Ringside Leather Double End Bag is a nice middle of the road double end bag to buy for anyone looking for a decent training bag at a great price. The bag itself is made of quality leather with reinforced loops, however there have been some complaints with the stitching not being smooth for those training barehanded.

Ringside offers 3 different size bags (5 inch, 7 inch, or 9 inch) each corresponding to a different skill level. The 9 inch bag would be for beginners, the 7 inch for intermediate level, and 5 inch for seasoned strikers. I recommend that those just starting out opt for the 9 inch bag to get acclimated to using the double end bag.

All double end bags will lose some air over time, and the Ringside is no different. The biggest complaint is probably that the elastic bands are not adjustable, especially considering that the bands will wear out over time and lose their elasticity. Other users complain of stitching issues, and tears happening with the bags, but this does not seem to be the norm.

Overall the Ringside Double End Bag is one of the best double end bags for beginners and advanced boxers, and one that will let you get your training in without breaking the bank. The design is fairly durable, and the materials are good. I would recommend this product as a good starting double end bag.

  • High quality leather construction.
  • Triple reinforced top and bottom loops.
  • Size options available.
  • Durable construction.
  • Decent value for price.
  • Good option for beginners or experienced strikers.
  • Elastic bands can lose their bounce.
  • Loses air over time.
  • Elastic bands are not adjustable.
  • Stitching issues.

Contender Fight Sports Boxing Double End Bag

Review: Contender has been in the realm of Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts gear for some time now, and they are known to put out decent quality training products. The synthetic leather construction allows for a little softer feel than the authentic leather than most double end striking bags.

There are many complaints of the bag ripping where the straps connect after heavy use, and some complaints of the air bladder being defective. This Contender Double End Bag only comes in the 9 inch size, which is primarily for beginners, making it less ideal for the more seasoned boxers out there.

All double end striking bags will require regular refills of air weekly or more depending on use. However, the Contender Double End Bag seems to have more complaints than average regarding the air bladder.

The Contender Fight Sports Sythetic Leather Double End Bag is a little lower on the end of the quality spectrum, and possibly not the best quality double end bag out there. Unfortunately, the double end bag ripping at the strap connections is a major problem, and one that would definitely cause me to reconsider purchasing this model. That, in addition to the complaints of inflation issues really push the Contender Double End Bag down the list for me.

For the beginner, this could be a intro training bag for the price, but it is not my recommendation.

  • Durable synthetic leather construction.
  • Double stitched seams and straps.
  • Poorly sized elastic bands.
  • Some complaints of rips along straps.
  • Some complaints of inflation quality.
  • Available in only one size.

Ringside Mexican-Style Double-Double End Bag

Review: The Ringside Mexican-Style Double-Double End Bag is two bags in one!

While having two bags in one opens up some great dynamics in the offensive striking arena, some of the defensive benefits of a traditional double end bag are lost with this bag. The hourglass shape of the bag keeps it from rebounding back towards the puncher allowing for slips other defensive maneuvers, which is one of the hallmarks of the traditional double end bag.

The hourglass shape of the bag lets you work infinitely more combinations than a traditional double end bag, but is still built for speed and not power. The differences in a double end bag and the Double Double really have no bearing on the quality of the bag, however.

The stitching and quality of the leather will hold up to regular use, and this bag has had very few complaints on losing air. Ringside generally makes decent quality training gear, and their Double-Double End Bag is one the higher end of that spectrum.

The overall size of the bag makes it great for beginners as well as those seasoned punchers who can beat out a rhythm on the bag. The Ringside Mexican Style Bag fills a need that many people have that sits between a heavy bag and a double end bag, making it one of the best double end bags for home.

I would definitely recommend picking up the Ringside Double-Double End bag, even in addition to a traditional double end bag, for working different techniques.

  • High quality, Full leather construction.
  • Two bags in one, allowing for head and body combinations.
  • Holds air well.
  • Great for beginners or advanced.
  • No mounting hardware included.
  • Bungee straps are not adjustable.
  • Less mobile than a traditional double end bag.
  • Less defensive benefits than a traditional double end bag.

Everlast Double End Striking Bag

Review: Everlast is a mainstay in the world of combat sports in the commercial, beginner sense. Everlast products are found in most of the chain department stores, available as an entry level training product for those new to combat sports, or those looking for a cheaper option.

The Everlast Double End Striking Bag has a diameter of 8 inches, putting it in the beginner size for double end striking bags. The bag is made of synthetic leather, but the top and bottom attachments are made of a different material, which leads to many of the rips and tears that users complain of.

The Everlast Double End Bag comes with bungee cords and attachments, but many complain that the cords are ill fitted for getting the desired height for training. Everlast does make a higher end version of the Double End Bag, with better materials, for a higher price. While this might not be the best double end bag for beginners, it is certainly a viable option, considering the price.

If you are just getting into boxing, or just looking for something low priced that you can get a good workout on, maybe this bag is for you. If you have any prior training, you will most likely find the Everlast Double End Striking Bag falls short of your expectations.

With a 120 day warranty, it might be worth giving it a shot, the Everlast Double End Striking Bag is not my recommendation.

  • 120 day warranty.
  • Low price.
  • Good for beginners.
  • Poor quality construction of connecting straps.
  • Bungee straps too short or poorly constructed.
  • Low quality materials, prone to ripping and tearing.

MaxxMMA Double End Ball

Review: MaxxMMA is a relatively unknown company in the world of combat sports, so the MaxxMMA Double End Ball is a bit of a gamble as far as products go. One definite bonus is that they include an air pump and the proper bungee cords to go with their bag, which is something other companies could take note of.

The inclusion of appropriately sized bungee cords for mounting are a real bonus for this double end striking bag, however the quality of the bungees may leave something to be desired. The sizing is right, but users have complained of the bungee cords snapping with moderate use, which is something you absolutely don’t want!

The bag itself is thin synthetic leather wrapped around a latex air bladder. Looks fairly cheap, but durable enough perhaps. The stitching around the top and bottom of the bag look decent, but may break down with regular use.

The 7 inch bag is an ok size for beginner and intermediate strikers, but most experienced strikers will likely want to steer clear of this one.

The MaxxMMA Double End Ball does offer some incentives by adding in a necessary air pump to their already low price, however the materials used are not the highest quality. Overall, the MaxxMMA Double End Ball is a decent option, but definitely not the top double end bag available. Not my recommendation.

  • Good price to value ratio.
  • Includes bungee cords and an air pump.
  • Decent option for beginners.
  • Poor quality materials.
  • Only one size available.
  • Very thin outer layer.

Mumian PU Leather Boxing Ball

Review: Mumian is unknown as far as Boxing and MMA equipment goes, so it is a bit of a gamble to pick up their double end striking bag, until you see the price. The Mumian PU Leather Boxing Ball is hands down one of the lowest priced double end bags in the market, and they’ve got great reviews behind their product.

The poly-leather doesn’t have the same beauty as real leather, but it makes up for it in being double layered and double stitched for added durability. The stitching itself looks better than many other low priced double end bags, and the actual design of the top and bottom straps look very durable.

The bag itself is 7 inches, making it a great option for beginners. More advanced striking practitioners may want to look elsewhere as this may be more a novice level item. Durability and functionality are a top priority when picking the best double end bag, and Mumian delivers with both at a killer price. Definitely recommend this for beginners and intermediate level athletes.

  • Great Price to Value Ratio.
  • Double stitched, double layered poly-leather material.
  • Great for Beginners.
  • No mounting hardware.

Pro Impact Double End Punching Bag

Reviews: The Pro Impact Double End Bag is on the upward scale of cost, as well as quality. The bag is made from 100% genuine leather, and has reinforced loops and welted seams for extra durability. The stitching itself looks like it will hold up well under punishment.

Inside the bag is a heavy duty rubber bladder which should cut back on air leaks during use. This bag has fewer issues with having to constantly refill the air during training. Another bonus is the wide selection offered by Pro Impact; they have 7 and 9 inch models available, as well as the Double Double hourglass bag in black and red.

My only complaint is the metal hooks that fasten onto the bag, they seem like they could be a potential hazard. All in all the Pro Impact Double End Bag is a relatively good choice for beginner or advanced strikers who want to get the best double end bag for their money, but the higher price tag may scare some users away.

  • 100% genuine leather.
  • Reinforced loops and welted seams.
  • Multiple size and color options.
  • Bungee cords and S hooks included.
  • High price.
  • Rubber bungees with metal hooks.

RDX Double End Speed Ball Bag

Review: RDX is known in the combat sports market for making quality training gear like gloves, pads, bags, headgear, and sportswear. Their reputation is outstanding, as well as their customer service.

The RDX Double End Speed Bag is one of the best double end bags on the market. The quality of materials used and the design itself are superior to most other similar products. The RDX Double End Speed Bag is built to give you a challenging workout , and stand up to long term use.

The bag is more oval shaped than round, as is common for the smaller bags, and the way it is stitched leaves no weak seams or joints exposed. This bag is made to bounce back quickly, and will be hard to build a rhythm on for beginners. The only real downside is the rubber bungee cords that are known to break down fairly quickly, but those can be found elsewhere.

Buy the bag, but get your own bungee cords is my recommendation. This bag is for advanced users, but worth the money.

  • High quality construction.
  • Double layered with a reinforced split seam.
  • Maya Hide Leather.
  • Superior bag design.
  • High price tag.
  • Poor quality bungee cords.
  • Small size bag, for advanced users.
